Maya Paya Kimsa is an organization that works with children and adolescents living or working in the streets of El Alto.
This population is characterized by incorporating to their everyday life creative strategies of survival despite the hostile environment in which they live. They seek autonomy and independence and create quite complex social codes which determine its involvement to the underworld of the street, but at the same time they show their wish of improvement and are seeking to change their life conditions.
MPK has created special services for children and young people at risk, running educational programmes to try to prevent early home-leaving and encouraging children already on the streets to avail of healthcare.
This project works at their Open Centre and also in the streets. The kind of work is oriented to the drug-dependece area, health and HIV prevention, education and personal development.
The kind of work done at MKP is tough and could be emotionally demaning, that’s why a Social Work background is desired.
